I was always told as a child that if you couldn't find your place in a book that you were reading then you weren't paying attention to what you were reading (from someone who would place books open and face down in between reading them, often breaking the spines of other people's paperbacks...) but I don't agree with that! I think there could be a dozen reasons why you might need help finding your place in a book you're reading, including if, like me, you often have more than one book on the go at once, but, in any case, I like bookmarks, I think they can be a nice little gift for a bookworm and having a cute bookmark is much nicer than using an old envelope or something like that, to mark your place.
So, anyway, I made these bookmarks! They are approximately 12 cm by 3 cm and about 2.5 mm thick- I was just measuring with a ruler so if you need this to be accurate to three decimal places this may not be exactly right! :-)
I've always thought black beetles were amazing looking- ever since I first saw Ernest Shepherd's beautiful illustrations to A.A. Milne's poem about a beetle called Alexander- although I was, and still am, vehemently opposed to the idea of beetles being put in matchboxes..
I handprinted the image on the slice of wood, then applied three coats of varnish to each side and attached the (randomly coloured) tassel. I create each bookmark to order so yours will not be the one in the picture but it will look very similar (except the tassel may be a different colour as these are chosen randomly) and I will post out within a few days of your order being placed. Listing price includes UK postage and packing- we recycle packaging when we can.
