"SPIDER KEYRING", hand-painted on painted wood, varnished
This keyring is one of a kind, I've only made one so far,! It's a beech wood rectangle, 5 X 3cm (approximately 2 inches by 1.2 inches) in length, with a stainless steel keychain attached in the middle of oe end. I painted it black and the handpainted a European Garden spider (Araneus diadematus) on it, slightly larger than life- don't worry arachnophobes, although they are oe of our biggest spiders in the UK that only amounts to about 13mm- ad that's includig their legs! NB that seemed very small to me as we have oe bigger than that in our garden which spins webs that go right across the garden path, so I just looked it up on a different website ad got revised measurements of 10-18mm, for females but the males are a teeny tiny 4-8mm! So, yes, we are in Shelob territory- these are quite big compared to most UK spiders!
The spider is painted over ni gold vegan-friendly paint and then I embellished the spider's body with some copper glitter to really make it (her?) stand out, before varnishing with three or four coats of satin varnish.
I like spiders and if you do too then please check out my other spider designs- you know you want to!
