This large (C5) card is a digitially produced reproduction of an original collage, combining a pen and ink sketch of an elderly flightless gull in a sanctuary, against a photograph of the area from which she came. Herring gulls have a bad reputation but they are amazing birds, highly intelligent and adaptable, and just doing their best to fit in around humans in spite of overfishing by humans driving more of them inland to scavenge for food in coastal towns. They are noisy birds and make their presence felt with their loud chatter and calls, so many people are unfairly intolerant of these beautiful birds whose numbers are in fact decreasing and in 2015 they were Red Listed as being of "Conservation Concern".
