This half-crab, half-woman, is one of my series of chimeras and mermaids. She really is a mermaid, since she is half earth-woman and half sea-creature!
She was actually inspired by a visit to see the wreck of The Amsterdam, a 260-year-old cargo ship sunk in the beach at Hastings and only visible at the lowest of spring tides.
Well worth a visit!

Anyway, my sister found a huge crab, with immensely long pincers, stranded up on the beach a very long way from the sea. It turned out to be a Spider Crab when we Googled it, which are unusual to find on a south coast beach.
So she picked it up and carried it all the way to the sea - which was a long way, as the Amsterdam is only exposed at extreme low tides.
And as she walked along with these huge pincers waving around, they seemed to become her arms.... !
And a character was born.....

In 2009, my family and I saved a Highland Bull from being killed by the Country Park in Cambrdgeshire where he lived with his herd.
The amazing Hillside Animal Sanctuary took him in when we had secured his release, and he has lived at their sanctuary in Norfolk ever since.
Fergus costs them a lot of money, and so we will donate 10% of the profit from the sale of this item to Hillside to support their wonderful work.
